Share the Road Bike Coalition
The Share the Road Cycling Coalition is a provincial cycling advocacy organization created to unite cycling organizations from across Ontario and work with and on behalf of municipalities to enhance their ability to make their communities more bicycle- friendly. They support advocacy and other programs to promote cycling. Here are some of their comments on changes to Ontario Legislation:
“The Keeping Ontario's Roads Safe Act is an important step forward for our province. This modernization of the Highway Traffic Act will serve to protect not only the over 600,000 cyclists on our roads daily -- it is critical to unlocking the benefits that cycling brings to our society: improved public health, decreased congestion and enhanced economic development and job creation through bicycle travel and tourism,” said Eleanor McMahon, CEO and Founder of the Share the Road Cycling Coalition. “Together with much needed infrastructure improvements, and enhanced education for motorists and cyclists, these legislative improvements are critical to enhancing road safety and thus getting more people on bikes, more often.”
“This Bill will bring clarity to motorists in terms of a safe passing distance, provide municipalities with tools to make cycling safer for citizens, and remind motorists and cyclists alike of the importance of riding and driving safely, and with due care and attention,".
